Qualities of a Good Lobbyist
A good lobbyist has the ability to state the merits of his / her client’s position to the legislators who at times may not know everything about the issue. A lobbyist must be very familiar with the needs of his/her client. A lobbyist’s main objective is to promote the client’s issue. Precise knowledge and thorough research are among a few key attributes a lobbyist must possess.
What separates a good lobbyist from an ordinary one? Here are a few qualities that a good lobbyist should possess:
Determination
A lobbyist should have a strong resolve. A good lobbyist must be a lucid speaker and must be enthusiastic about the subject on which he is talking. He / she must speak in a manner that proves he is genuinely interested in the subject .A talented lobbyist systematically understands the whole legislative process and is able to strategically arrange and assure a follow-up. In order to become a successful lobbyist, one must be observant and focused.
Honesty and Integrity
A good lobbyist must ensure that he is upfront and honest. Misrepresentation and lying is strictly forbidden. A lobbyist should be truthful in corresponding with public officials and with other interested persons and should seek to provide factually correct, current and accurate information. A genuine lobbyist always tries to gain trust by being ethical and following the rules of the legislative process.
Loyalty
A lobbyist should exercise loyalty
to the client's or employer's interests. At the same time he must maintain
discipline at all times. A lobbyist should keep the client or employer informed
regarding the work that the lobbyist is undertaking and preferably give the
client the opportunity to choose between various options and strategies.
